Por segunda vez en el año, viajé a la caribeña isla de Trinidad, para cantar en dos eventos en Puerto de España. Muy bien acompañada por Pablo Pupillo en teclado, Michael Chang Wai en guitarra, Nigel Baptiste en bajo y Leason Jacobs en batería, canté el 6 y 7 de Diciembre. Estoy muy agradecida con las empresas Illuminat, Avaya y Avnet por la invitación y por tan buen trato.

For the second time in this year, I travelled to the Caribbean Island, Trinidad and Tobago, to sing in two events that took place in Port of Spain. With an excellent accompaniment by Pablo Pupillo on keyboard, Michael Chang Wai on guitar, Nigel Baptiste on bass, and Leason Jacobs on drums, I sang on December 6th and 7 th. I am very thankful to Illuminat, Avaya and Avnet for the invitation and for treating me so kindly.

El Jueves 15 de Noviembre nos presentamos con el gran Mariano Heler en La Biblioteca Café y disfrutamos de un cálido público, rodeados de libros y madera. Tocamos “Canciones que Perduran” a las que también podemos llamar “canciones que se nos cantan”. Además, estrenamos un tango, con música de Mariano y letra mía que se llama “Baile de mil latas”. La canción cuenta la historia de un señor que solía estar en la puerta de una iglesia, en Santa Fe y Talcahuano, quien con un grito helado “asustaba” a los que pasábamos distraídos y se reía, con el baile de mil latas… Hace años que no lo vemos, pero bien pudo haber estado esa noche entre nosotros.

On Thursday, November 15th, we played with great Mariano Heler at La Biblioteca Cafe of Buenos Aires and we enjoyed a warm public, surrounded by books and wood. We chose the songs we like the most, songs that will last forever, and we also presented one of our new tango, with Mariano’s melody and lyrics written by me, called “Baile de mil latas” (“The dance of a hundred cans”). The song tells the story of a guy that used to be sited in front of a church, who with a frozen screen would “scare” the distracted ones that passed by, and then he would laugh with the dance of a hundred cans… None of us have seen him again, but he could have been that night among us.

El estudio Ideo Music organizó un concurso de Jovenes Cantantes de Tango. Entre más de 100 cantantes, eligieron a 21 para que graben un tango. El Lunes 22 de Octubre a las 11.30 pm grabé “Nostalgias” siendo una de las finalistas. En el marco del concurso fui invitada al programa de radio “Movida de Tango” en la 2×4 con la conducción del amable Claudio Pereyra. La votación se realizó exclusivamente por Facebook y ganó una joven imbatible de 16 años, con más de 1200 “me gusta”.

Ideo Music Studio organized a contest of Young Tango Singers. Among more than a hundred participants, 21 singers were chosen to each record a different tango. On Monday, October 22nd at 23:30 pm, I recorded “Nostalgias” being one of the finalists. I was also invited to the radio program called “Movida de Tango”, hosted by kind Claudio Pereyra. Voting occurred exclusively by Facebook and an unbeatable young woman of 16 years won, with more than 1200 likes.

El 29 de Abril de 2012 Ceci Mendez fue invitada por el Ministerio de Turismo de Tobago al Fetival Tobago Jazz Experience 2012. Allí tocaron con Pablo Pupillo en Piano y Arreglos, Michael Chang Wai en Guitarra, Leason Jacobs en Batería y Nigel Baptiste en Bajo. Compartieron escenario con artistas internacionales como Angie Stone (USA), David Rudder (Trinidad & Tobago) y Arturo Tappin (Barbados).

PRESS RELEASE: Argentina’s Ceci Mendez brings Latin-American Rhythms to the Tobago Jazz Experience 2012

Ceci Mendez from Buenos Aires, captivated audiences with her warm, melodic tone alongside Pablo Pupillo, arranger/pianist at the Beach Jazz Fiesta on Sunday 29th April at the Pigeon Point Heritage Park, Tobago.

Tobago, Caribbean, May 4th, 2012: Taking centre stage on the final night, Ceci Mendez was accompanied by Pablo Pupillo on keyboard and local musicians Michael Chang Wai on acoustic guitar, Nigel Batiste on bass and Leason Jacobs on drums. Together they enthralled audiences with jazz infused versions of the Beatles “Come Together,” Nat King Cole’s “Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps” and classic Argentine and Brazilian Bossa Nova, Samba and Tango. The group shared the stage with International recording artist Angie Stone (USA), David Rudder (Trinidad & Tobago) and Arturo Tappin (Barbados).
